“More than 12 inches from the curb.”Parking on hills and leaving the car坡道停车与离车Estacionarse en pendientes y salir del auto
- Downhill with a curb: wheels toward the curb. Uphill with a tall curb: wheels away from the curb. No curb: wheels toward the edge of the road, so if the parking brake fails the car rolls away from traffic, not into it. Always set the parking brake, even on flat ground.
- Open your door with the hand farthest from it (the "Dutch Reach"). Turning your body this way lets you see bicyclists coming and stops the door from flying open.
- It is a crime to leave a child under 12 alone in a parked car, or under 16 with the motor running.
- Uphill next to a low or rounded curb, turning the wheels toward the curb may be safer, because a low curb may not hold the tire.
- Leaving an animal in a vehicle where heat, cold, poor ventilation or lack of water could harm it is a crime. Officers may remove children or animals from a vehicle to protect them.
