Intersections and right-of-way路口与优先通行权Intersecciones y derecho de paso
Who goes first at stop signs, uncontrolled intersections and roundabouts, and how to protect pedestrians.
Intersecciones controladas por señales de alto
- Four-way stop: first to arrive goes first. If two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right.
- A left-turning vehicle yields to vehicles going straight or turning right.
- Two-way stop: the turning vehicle yields to the vehicle going straight.
- If your view is blocked at the stop line, edge forward slowly until you can see. Edging forward also lets crossing drivers see the front of your car before you can see them.
- Before entering any intersection, stop and yield to pedestrians and to traffic already in it. Only go when there is room to cross or turn without blocking the intersection.
- After stopping at a stop sign, look for crossing vehicles and pedestrians in all directions and yield to them. A driver on the through street without a stop sign does not yield to you.
- T-intersection: your road ends at a through road. A yield or stop sign there tells you the through traffic has the right-of-way; enter only in a safe gap. Y-intersection: a minor road joins a major one, and the major road has the right-of-way.T型交叉路口: 您的道路在一条直行道路处结束。

- Every intersection is legally a crosswalk, marked or not.
- Wait until a pedestrian has cleared your lane plus one more lane. For someone using a wheelchair, cane, guide dog or service animal, wait until they have fully crossed.
- Do not honk at a person with a service animal; interfering with a service animal is unlawful.
- Always yield to pedestrians and bicyclists at crosswalks and intersections, marked or not. This includes people in a crosswalk and people about to step into one.
- A marked mid-block crosswalk gives pedestrians the right-of-way even with no stop sign or signal. Stop and let them cross.

“Stop between 15 and 50 feet away from the nearest rail of a crossing when:”Roundabouts and uncontrolled intersections环岛与无管制路口Glorietas e intersecciones no controladas
- Slow to the 15-25 mph design speed. The lane choice sign on the approach shows which lane is for right turns, straight through and left turns: pick your lane from it and stay in it until you exit.
- Yield to everyone already in the roundabout (look left); a yield sign at the entry means circulating traffic goes first. Enter to the right when you see a gap, travel counterclockwise in your lane, and leave at your exit, even if that exit is to your left.
- Stop for pedestrians and bicyclists in the crosswalks when you enter and when you exit the roundabout.
- Give large trucks plenty of room: they may use both lanes and the raised truck apron. Keep a safe distance behind them.
- A bicyclist may ride the roundabout as a vehicle, in the middle of the lane to be visible. If an emergency vehicle comes, drive through and pull over after you exit.
- Traffic calming circle: a small intersection with a center island. Go counterclockwise around it and apply normal intersection right-of-way rules. Large vehicles may have to go clockwise; give them space.
- Uncontrolled intersections have no signs, but the normal right-of-way rules apply: yield if a vehicle is already in the intersection, if you enter a state highway from a secondary road, if you come from an unpaved road, or if you turn left across oncoming traffic.
- Diverging diamond interchange: signs and markings guide you to the left side of the roadway, then back. Follow them closely. Left turns onto the freeway there have no conflict with oncoming traffic.
Easy to mix up易混淆Fácil de confundir
- Roundabout vs. calming circle: both are counterclockwise. A roundabout always has yield-on-entry; a calming circle may have stop signs, yield signs or nothing, so use normal intersection rules.
